Wedding Cake & Cupcakes!

Our friends, Amanda & Andrew, got married last Saturday! The bride was gorgeous, the groom was handsome, and the venue was beautiful. Amanda asked me to make the bride & groom's cake, as well as cupcakes, and I couldn't have been happier to be a part of their big day!

Here they are...what do you think?

I made 5 different flavors of cupcakes and frostings:
I frosted all of the cupcakes with a Wilton 2D tip. I only tried 2 of the flavors (which were good!) but received feedback that they all tasted great.

I do feel bad that Amanda bought these super cute cupcake liners and I didn't end up not using them because I was not happy at all with the way they looked. I went to bed Friday night knowing I needed to find another solution, and awoke at 3:00am with the idea to make some cupcake wrappers (a different color for each cupcake flavor). I didn't want to stress Amanda out the morning of her wedding, so this last minute decision was a surprise to her, but I think she was happy with the overall outome. I'm my worst critic and I was really happy with how they looked in the end too! Cupcake wrappers are so simple to make, yet really make the cupcakes stand out. I love them!

For the bride and groom's cake, I made a Neapolitan Cake. Since I am not good at getting a smooth finish with frosting, I decided to go with the Ruffle Tower cake look.

Here are a couple pictures of the bride & groom cutting the cake from the talented April (who captured Luke's first year on camera!).

And isn't the cupcake stand/tower amazing?!? My awesome hubby built it for me! It turned out perfectly and is something I can use again and again. Thanks Andy!! :)

Amanda also asked me for some ideas for wedding favors. I mentioned that she could do a candy buffet and she did! I loaned her my glass dishes for her to use too. Also, if the middle dish looks familiar, it's because it's the etched hurricane glass I gave her as a shower gift. Again, awful picture...but the candy buffet looked great!

And in closing, here are a pictures of my little man and me at the wedding!

Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Cook! We're so happy for you guys! :)

  2. I can't believe Andy made that stand! I mean, I can because he's very handy that way, but it was so incredibly cute! And I can say, since I was there and tasted one of those amazing cupcakes, that they were a big hit and I don't know of any bakery that could have done a better job. You are so talented!
