Last week my friend (and former coworker), Jenn, had her baby shower! It was so much fun! I, along with 5 other girls, put the shower together. I'm sure it comes as no surprise, but I was in charge of desserts. Since the nursery is a blue/brown/green nautical theme, I decided to try to incorporate that into the table. I love how it turned out!
True to form, I made way too many desserts. I always seem to get a bit carried away! I'd rather have too much than too little though, so I'll probably never change.
- Caramel corn - So easy to make and so good! This may just become a regular snack and party food at my house. To display the caramel corn, I put styrofoam in the wooden box (from Hobby Lobby). Then I stuck 8 sucker sticks into the styrofoam, and simply slid caramel corn filled paper cones (made with scrapbook paper) on them. The last step was to cover the Styrofoam with candy (in this case, Lifesavers - to go along with the nautical theme).
- Sugar cookies - Of course these were a necessity. I got a little excited when thinning my royal icing and added too much water, so I wasn't happy with how they looked. They tasted good though! I used simple onesie and scalloped circle cookie cutters.
- Ritz Peanut Butter Cookies - I remember these being served at a Girl Scouts meeting back in the day. I loved them then and I still love them! They taste just like Tagalongs. Simply take 2 Ritz crackers, spread peanut butter in the middle, and dip in chocolate. Easy!
- Red Velvet Cake Pops - Another party must for me!
- Puppy Chow - Another childhood favorite! Some people use Rice Chex for these, but I've always used Crispix (Sweet Minglers). This stuff is so addicting. I actually had to make 2 batches because Luke and I got into the first batch. I served these in some cute little origami sailboats (although everyone thought they were hats).
- Mini Chocolate Caramel Trifles - I've made this dessert several times and it's always a fan favorite. I saw these mini trifle dishes awhile back at Walmart and thought they make perfect individual desserts, especially perfect for a couples baby shower! I displayed these on top of a cool mirrored buoy (also from Hobby Lobby).
- Chocolate Chip Cookies - Chocolate chip cookies have been my favorite cookie for as long as I can remember. Can't go wrong with these!
- White Cake Push-Ups - These could possibly be my newest favorite dessert trend! How fun are these? Each push-up consists of 2 white cake mini cupcakes with big globs of chocolate frosting. Simply push the cupcakes out of the containers, just like you did back in the day with tangerine push-ups from the ice cream truck! The best thing is that the containers are re-usable, so you will be seeing them again :)
When you walk into Devan's house, where the shower was held, you're greeted by a big chalkboard wall. I love it and am trying to convince Andy that we should do this on one of Luke's bedroom walls. Look how much fun he had drawing on it!
Here I am with the soon-to-be momma, Jenn!
Luke loves giving Jenn hugs and kisses! Sorry Jen, but he calls her "Aunt Jenn" too. And what's even funnier is that her husband's name is Matt, so he's "Uncle Matt" too :)
And of course I had to make some onesies for their gift. Jenn and Matt are parents to two cute Golden Retrievers, Marlowe and Maggie. This onesie is for them!
And here are the rest of them! Can't wait to see a chunky little baby boy filling them out :)
So glad I could help with your baby shower, Jenn! Can't wait to meet Baby P! I know Luke and he are going to be great friends! :)
